Senior Principal Energy Compliance Strategy and Advocacy position plays a crucial role in guiding Honda's energy regulation compliance strategy and advocacy efforts. As a member of the New Business Sensing and Support team, this individual will work closely with internal and external stakeholders to balance the needs of the company and society as Honda expands its portfolio of energy products and services. The Senior Principal will work closely with business teams to understand strategies and product and service plans, and to ensure a common understanding of relevant regulations. They also ensure that teams have a clear understanding of their compliance obligations while advocating for regulatory changes that enable the delivery of new products and services that are competitive and compliant. Additionally, this role is responsible for establishing a consistent company policy to guide advocacy efforts.

Responsibilities include:

Sensing & Advocacy – advocate for Honda’s position during rulemaking and standards development to ensure Honda’s remains in a competitive position

  • Maintain a thorough understanding of Honda’s energy business direction and strategy both at the regional and global level.
  • Monitor regulatory trends and assess their potential impact on Honda's current and future energy business.
  • Conduct in-depth research and analysis of current and proposed energy regulations at the federal, state, and local levels.
  • ·Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to develop well–informed policies that align with Honda's strategic direction.
  • Develop and execute advocacy strategies in coordination with business teams to support Honda’s position to ensure future products are compliant and competitive and to form new pathways to realize strategic objectives.

Compliance Strategy - partner with business to develop compliance strategies that are optimized to maximize Honda’s competitiveness while meeting our obligations to society

  • Develop compliance strategy in close coordination with business, industry, and authority stakeholders balancing Honda’s objectives and society’s needs.
  • Support business with comprehensive and accurate regulatory consultation and interpretation to ensure teams have clear and actionable direction towards optimized compliance.
  • Ensure teams maintain compliance and obtain necessary certifications to remain compliant.

Strengthen and Expand Honda’s Reputation – build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders

  • Develop and deliver clear and concise presentations on complex regulatory issues to internal and external audiences.
  • Represent Honda publicly by communicating the company's thought leadership in the energy business space. 

Business Unit Sustainability – collaborate with and support business unit to achieve objectives

  • Lead, and/or support business unit projects and other initiatives to facilitate delivery of value and associate engagement.
  • Contribute towards a high performing culture where accountability, trust, and inclusion is exemplified by every associate to generate the highest quality work products from teams and individuals alike, continuously reflecting on processes and tools to maximize effectiveness and efficiency.

Required Education:

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in energy policy, environmental law, or a related field.

Required Experience

• A minimum of 8 years of experience in the energy industry with a strong focus on regulatory affairs and advocacy is required.
• A proven track record of successfully navigating complex energy regulations and advocating for regulatory changes is essential.
• Demonstrated ability to influence policy decisions and interact with public utility commissions is crucial.

• Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and regulatory research databases.
