Job Purpose: 

The Circular Solutions Division is responsible for business development in the area from used car phase to the end-of-life vehicle phase to support the realization of a circular economy in North America. The digital solutions group is responsible to research, plan, test, launch and monetize digital solutions in this area to enhance and contribute to the overall profitability of American Honda Motor.

 

The primary role of the “Data Solution Sales Engineer – Vehicle Lifecycle Business” will be the Product Owner of the Digital Product Passport (DPP) solution. Based on data-driven business vision and hypothesis, the Data Solution Sales Engineer will need to visualize the value proposition of DPP for the identified customer, conduct business development activities for validating acceptance by the customers and ensure project profitability.

 

As a business subject matter expert, the Data Solution Sales Engineer, will be the business lead in the daily execution of planning and development path towards a functional DPP.

 

 

Key Accountabilities:

  • Product Owner - Digital Product Passport (DPP):
    • Identify stakeholders and opportunities which DPP can be a valuable solution.
    • Create and propose business hypothesis for management approval.
    • Drive project in the agile framework, leading the Pre-planning, Sprints, Sprint Reviews, and owning the Backlogs.
    • Lead communication with stakeholders including global Product Owner, internal Business Line owners, external partners, and external customers.
    • Find and sell into customers with the approved solution.

 

  • Subject Matter Expertise – Customer/Vehicle data/Target market
    • Understand customer: clarify pain points and needs of the target customer through research, creating relationships and engaging with their operation and/or experience.
    • Understand product/solution: clarify the core data elements from applicable vehicles (vehicle parts, telematics data, vehicle conditions, service history data, etc.) that contribute to the value of the solution.
    • Understand AHM operations: be the project PIC to speak on behalf of other AHM business lines to be captured by the solution.
    • Be the voice of the target customer.

 

  • Hypothesis Testing
    • Accountable for establishing a testing plan with setting clear, relevant and measurable KPI to validate solution success.
    • Ensure execution on an agreed upon timely schedule and proposing alternative methods if any barriers or blockers are encountered.

 

  • Business Model
    • Create data-driven value proposition of solution.
    • Identify financial elements (expense/revenue/profit) that influence monetization and cost recovery for the solution.
    • Create data-driven forecast with specific customer take rates for financial success.
    • Track and report DPP financial metrics.

 

  • Other projects as assigned.

 

 

Qualifications, Experience, and Skills:

  • BA/BS required in related field, MBA preferred
  • 10+ years in data business development or data sales engineer role, auto industry experience highly preferred
  • 5+ years of experience in automotive vehicle development and knowledge of automotive value chain
  • 5+ years of experience in a Product Owner/Project Lead role
  • Experience in business development, product development, sales & marketing preferred.
  • Experience in project management, including setting objectives and performance measurement.
  • Experience in drafting business requirements with examples of success preferred
  • Demonstrate strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills that can be applied across a diverse set of audiences.

Working Conditions:

  • Primarily office environment including desk work and meetings
  • Regular conference calls and video conferences with different time zones
  • Working outside of normal business hours, particularly late evenings for meetings with other time zones (e.g., US Eastern time, Japan).
  • Preparation of proposals required on short timelines
  • Travel up to 10%
