Job Title:

PC-DMIS Senior Metrologist

Job Purpose:

Provides developmental & daily coordination of Dimensional Lab members, plans & ensures Dimensional Lab operations run effectively, contributes as Dimensional Analysis Engineer, and engages the customer's viewpoint and needs to ensure value of overall Lab analysis outputs.

 

Key Accountabilities:

Programming, measurement inspections & reporting (Using PC-DMIS, PCMM, Gantry CMM, Gages, etc.) (PCMM=Portable Coordinate Measuring Machine, a.k.a. “Arm”)
Review/Confirm suitability and accuracy of reports that are generated by Engineer 1 members, providing positive and constructive feedbacks.
Technical training of Metrology subjects and skills
Engagement with customer sections to confirm Dimensional Lab outputs are aligned to their needs, and projected changes are communicated as needed.
Create budget proposals for Operating Expense and Investments, at the cyclic milestones set by Dept and ACCT.  Ensure budgets are executed to plans.
Development planning and Performance management of Engineer 1 members
Ensure Dimensional Lab operations are compliant with Honda Engineering Standards, Quality Management Systems, Safety policies, etc.
Generate metrics and provide summary reports to Unit management (i.e., Monthly Reports, Invoice verifications, etc.)
Create, update and maintain Laboratory management systems (i.e. Logs, Databases, etc.)
Instigate PDCA for Dimensional Laboratory operations.
Plan annual upkeep of Dimensional Lab and its equipment.  Ensure execution of plan.
Dimensional Lab layouts, facilities, and capability adjustments
Support large-scale inspection campaign project planning (i.e., New Model parts confirmation)
 

Qualifications, Experience & Skills:

2 or 4 -year Degree from college or university, or Professional Certificate in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Metrology, or other applied STEM field, or equivalent experience
3+ years applied Metrology technical experience.
PC-DMIS programming (with and without CAD model available)
Trainer-level understanding of Trigonometry, metrology methods and terminology.
Ability to create PC-DMIS programs and troubleshoot programs of others.
Trainer level hand Gage / Surface plate inspection skills
Effective written and verbal communication skills
Understanding of all CMM, gage and Laboratory needs/requirements/key operational aspects
Trainer/troubleshooting level skill in all Dimensional Lab instruments
Changepoint control systems & trouble reporting systems.
Microsoft Excel, CATIA, Visual Basic, Microsoft Office
 

Working Conditions:

Must be able to work flexible schedule including shifts and weekends as necessary.
Must be willing to travel as required.
Must be able to work overtime as necessary to support department needs (short term and/or scheduled)
Working in a laboratory on-site majority of the time. Warehouse/production floor presence may be required 10% of the time.
