Job Purpose

Reliability CAE Engineers are responsible for validating the body and/or chassis strength, durability, and marketability to meet Honda’s internal requirements and model specific targets with a goal of meeting or exceeding Honda and Acura customer expectations. As an expert in your technical area, you will oversee assigned vehicle development, CAE and research activities towards gathering computational results for body and/or chassis systems as well as develop others from technical and project perspective.
 

Key Accountabilities

Oversee body and/or chassis strength, durability, and marketability CAE simulations. Serve as escalation point for complex and advanced troubleshooting activities that involve multiple stakeholders and deep root cause analyses to be resolved.
Follow company guidelines and policies to integrate assigned segment into the vehicle, or to lead a group in doing so. Correlate with pertinent divisions post testing and simulation activities to understand the results and define next steps. Provide guidance to associates and contractors as needed. Typical interactions and correlations at this level are cross-departmental and cross-divisional. Adapt communication style and approach as needed depending on the audience and purpose.
Conceive and oversee the development of engineering specifications and standards for the assigned vehicle segment or functions to guide engineering and manufacturing work in the organization and / or of its suppliers. Provide direct technical guidance and final oversight to multiple groups.
Identify shortcomings and suggest improvements to existing processes, systems, and procedures. Have foresight on impeding problems and do the problem- solving decision matrix on how to fix them.
Compile and / or develop documentation (i.e. specification sheets, evaluation documents) to record and submit all necessary information as the development process moves forward. Review documents prepared by PICs and junior engineers for completeness and quality check. Provide guidance to others as needed.
Manage relationships with internal stakeholders and counterparts, building high levels of professional credibility and mutual trust. Manage inter-Honda company issues and coordinate internal resources. Provide reporting regarding large project status and deliverables.
Serve as a subject matter expert status in own area of technology or function. Maintain or obtain external accreditations and in-depth understanding of current and emerging external regulations and industry best practices through continuing professional development, conferences, and specialist publications.
 

Qualifications, Experience, and Skills

Minimum Educational Requirements: 

BS in Mechanical / Automotive Engineering

 

Minimum Experience: 

Substantial general work experience together with comprehensive job related experience in own area of expertise to fully competent level (6 - 10 years).


Other Job-Specific Skills:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Powerpoint
  • Experience in data analysis and communication of complex information to engineering management is desired.
  • Experience with following software or similar is desired
    • 3D CAD surface modeling CATiA or SolidWorks
    • FEA Software Abaqus, Nastran, Hypermesh, Ansa, Meta, LS-DYNA
    • Scripting in Java, Python, MATLAB
  • Ability to communicate concerns and ideas through remote work environment

Physical ability to drive a car.
Willingness to work in a physical testing environment when required, including execution of physical tests. 
Overtime work will be required depending on project need.
