Job purpose:

  • The Prototype Planning Cost Leader (CL) is responsible for the oversight of all direct costs procured by the Prototype Purchasing Department (PPD). This position is responsible to achieve or reduce direct budgets. Create cost targets for HDMA pre-production build events. This position will be the subject matter expert in pre-production cost setting and evaluation while collaborating with Development and New Model teams as well as other management to ensure profitability.

Key accountabilities:

  • Create cost targets for direct parts on pre-production and prototype builds. Assess and evaluate quotes from suppliers and buyer assessment of cost reasonability. Approve final costs to contain development spending and ensure model profitability.
  • Direct cost negotiations for high dollar items requiring in-depth knowledge of materials and manufacturing methods.
  • Oversee the creation and modification of standard operating procedures related to direct cost evaluation. Lead the purchasing staff understanding of how to assess, receive and negotiate cost.
  • Responsible for selecting tooling that can move from pre-production to production and maintain correct financial accountability. Correlate with Design PIC, track tooling throughout its life cycle and dispose when appropriate ensuring accurate financial reporting.
  • Review cost attributes for trial events and engage NMD/PSCC for setting cost targets for trial events.
  • Review performance of buying staff and provide input to Procurement GLs related to cost target achievement by buyer as it applies to performance review competencies.

Workstyle: 

  • Hybrid - at least 3 days per workweek at the local office.

Qualifications, experience and skills:

  •  Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Business or Other Related Field.
  • Minimum 5 years of related experience.
  • Microsoft office products, especially advanced Excel skills.
