Job Purpose

Responsible for developing, leading and managing supplier sustainability dangerous goods transportation and carbon neutrality projects to build a work environment supporting supplier sustainability initiatives.  The expectation is to enable participation from all locations while continuing to enhance HDMA’s commitment to sustainability through forward progression of HDMA’s goals and objectives.
Responsible for overall strategy development and implementation, creating linkage to the Business Plan (strategy/planning/operational); establishing measurable and achievable dangerous goods transportation and carbon neutrality targets for HDMA consistent with overall NA direction. Execution of strategies, performance monitoring and corrective action/countermeasures to achieve targets, as required, as well as information management by creating new processes and systems. Duties will include effective communications with outside organizations, industry groups, and regulatory agencies to achieve a common goal. Develop an internal communication network with NAAP procurement and designers to develop entry point strategies to increase the visibility of dangerous goods transportation and carbon neutrality goals and initiatives at HDMA. Develop and execute training as it relates to business direction. Assess Honda’s current initiatives and develop short- and long-term strategies—regular monitoring of Center activities to ensure alignment, overall direction to achieve all targets.

Key Accountabilities

Create, develop and maintain procedures and flows to establish team position in Honda’s ongoing commitment to support Dangerous Goods Transportation of business relationships with direct OEM suppliers regarding parts, components, and assemblies to support HDMA operations. 
•    Development and management of means to achieve established goals, including devising independent methods and processes that work in collaboration with other departments to increase company engagement. 
•    Develop and track direct supplier engagement and work closely with the Supply Chain operations and other like departments (transportation) to develop flows and procedures to collect data quarterly and assess activity
Create, develop and maintain external and internal strategies, including coordination to implement action plans to achieve Center carbon neutrality (inbound logistics) objectives.
•    Management of Carbon Neutrality vision and strategies; create a short- and long-term strategy for engagement with our internal and external partners (ie, industry groups, other OEMS and, supplier benchmarking) that has Honda’s best interest in mind; developing policies and programs; report progress of major activities through participation in meetings and monthly/quarterly mgmt. meetings.
•    Develop entry point strategies for GHG/CO2e data gathering for inbound logistics to ensure quarterly/annual KPI reporting and target reduction activity achievement.
Management and oversight of annual budget and budget preparation; development of strategy and establishment of overall program direction. Manage creation
•    Develop, manage, and execute the annual department budget based on HDMA’s overall strategy and direction
•    Assist as needed to further Sustainability Unit goals and objectives

Qualifications, Experience, and Skills

Minimum Educational Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Business Related Field or if no degree, equivalent relevant experience required. 
    Environmental management, supply chain management, supplier sustainability or related is ideal

Minimum Experience:    
8 years of responsible experience in the transportation sector and or activities which must include strong computer skills, analytical, problem solving, and budget planning experience

Other Job-Specific Skill:    
Strong computer skills, including working knowledge of MS Office Suite
Knowledge of integrated purchasing & financial systems
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, along with the ability to communicate with all levels of management

Decisions Expected


  • Identify, develop, and lead business dangerous goods transportation initiatives.
  • Gain consensus with multiple departments and companies via DA process to move forward with potential future direction
  • Develop and lead methodology to maintain financial and administrative records/metrics through sound process and policy, provide judgment
  • PDCA current and future strategies for HDMA consideration (discipline versus need) and provide direction on assessment
  • Lead and develop appropriate training and developmental programs for HDMA leaders, buyers, internal departments, and suppliers
  • Develop, evaluate, and provide direction for useful tools for standardization of processes
  • Independently lead key negotiations with suppliers and in-house departments (Purchasing and Design)

Working Conditions


  • Open office environment with moderate level of noise and activity.
  • Hybrid Work Style (60% office/40% remote)
  • Travel required an estimated 10%-15% of the time (Mar-Nov).
