Job Purpose

Procuring and coordinating the supply of raw materials (Steel) in support of Honda of America Manufacturing (MAP, ELP and IAP) and its suppliers such as Laser Weld and Processing companies; initiate and support cost down targets. Coordinate commodity specific strategies for Steel department. Act independently as Honda Trading’s representative to Honda of America Manufacturing in matters which require face to face contact. 

Key Accountabilities

  • Ensure On-Time Scheduled Delivery of Customers Steel Requirements - Accurate orders placed in a timely manner; thorough analysis of inventory position; frequent follow-up with mills & processing centers; 100% on time delivery (no short-ships/missed shipments). Maintenance of In-House electronic data retrieval.
  • Improve Customer Service - Thorough knowledge of customers & their expectations; rapid response to inquiries; no pending claims; regularly scheduled visits to customer facilities; strive to exceed customers' expectations. Must be versed in Steel commodity. Support plant specific new model activity.
  • Improve Supplier Management - Act as contact and liaison between HTA and assigned suppliers (mills, processors, freight, etc.); regularly funnel feedback using QCDDM philosophy & evaluations - (lead meetings, determine delivery % goals, track, and present and coordinate agenda & presentation packets); ensure open lines of communication to discuss organizational improvements. Utilize production and cost data to manage supplier manufacturing process as it relates to coil yield efficiency. Manage metric and presentation table. Manage results. Manage communication between Customer Purchasing, Accounting and Supplier Sales and Technical groups.
  • Lead and coordinate cost down & development of projects - Work closely with suppliers/customers/HAM/HTA (internal) to initiate ideas for cost down; create problem & situation analysis to determine benefits; schedule time lines as needed; communicate effectively to encourage goals be met; present updates and results regularly to management. Lead effort to execute and manage monthly cost analysis with NAP to identify cost discrepancies as well as supplier manufacturing results and its impact on unit cost.
  • Improve profitability of department - Clear and concise reporting of pertinent operating data; thorough checking and analysis of sales, costs and margins; no aged accounts receivable; rapid inventory turnover (1.5 mos. common grades/high risk as needed)
  • Improve efficiency of department- Develop clear daily operating procedures with assistant; analyze current tasks for opportunities to improve efficiencies ensure accuracy of all documentation (MSAs, Product Records, etc.)
  • Communication to management - Act as HTA’s main on-site contact to Honda of America Manufacturing. Keep management informed of all potential problems or personal concerns; Work unsupervised while keeping supervisor informed of activities.
  • Motivate assistant and control workload - Understand assistant's daily work activity; encourage information status updates of projects and weekly activities; provide encouragement and direction; coach and counsel to improve efficiency and productivity.

Qualifications, Experience, and Skills

  • Minimum Educational Qualifications
    • BS/BA in Business or equivalent work experience (Required)
  • Minimum Experience
    • Purchasing or Sales experience (Required)
    • Basic knowledge of cost accounting (Preferred)
    • Customer service experience (Required)
  • Other Job-Specific Skills
    • Strong Interpersonal Skills
    • Sound Understanding of General Business Concepts
    • Conflict Management Skills
    • Strong Understanding of Cost Factors Impacting Profit / Loss
