Landing Gear Systems Engineer

General Summary:
Systems Engineer involved in the design and production engineering of Aircraft Landing Gear and Hydraulic Systems. The candidate will create layouts, detailed designs, qualification and certification documentation, and aircraft production & in-service designs and modifications.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Generates Engineering Models and Drawings utilizing CATIA Version 5.
2. Use novel approaches to solve complex and challenging problems.
3. Performs trade studies for Landing Gear and Hydraulic Systems to identify optimal engineering solution.
4. Perform component layouts for Landing Gear and Hydraulic Systems in support of schematic architecture. Systems may range from conventional mechanisms to complex control and monitoring systems.
5. Perform kinematic studies and system performance analysis for Landing Gear Systems.
6. Geometrical Dimensioning & Tolerancing knowledge to optimize part design for cost and functionality.
7. Collaborates with the Integrated Product Team to resolve cross functional issues.
8. Implements Industry best engineering practices (design for manufacturing, design for reliability and design for maintainability).
9. Have the ability to understand and apply certification requirements.
10. Have the ability to generate Landing Gear and Hydraulic qualification and certification documents in support of design and qualification requirements.
11. Implement design solutions optimized for cost and weight.
12. Manages task execution to ensure on-time and on-target completion.
13. Searches for problem root cause and develop corrective action plans and solutions.
14. Participates in design / development reviews with management and internal customers. The candidate must have the ability to deliver technical presentations effectively to a diverse and demanding audience.
15. Investigate and disposition production line build issues.
Education, Work Experience, Certification and/or Licensure:
1. BS in Mechanical Engineering with 8-12 years directly related experience
2. OR MS / MBA with 6-10 years of experience
3. Some Travel will be required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
1. Proficient in use of CATIA Version 5 or Version 6.
2. Advanced knowledge of drafting rules and configuration management.
3. Advanced knowledge of Geometrical Dimensioning and Tolerancing.
4. Proficient in Microsoft Office Products.
5. Functional knowledge of Team Center of similar Product Life Cycle tools
6. Familiar with FAR Part 23 or Part 25
7. Functional knowledge of SAP preferred.
Physical Requirements:
1. Incumbents may be routinely exposed to equipment operational noise heat-cold-dust, and/or aircraft equipment, parts, or fuel odors.
2. Incumbents may be required to stand, sit, squat, walk, bend, climb ladders, move, reach, or stretch for prolonged time periods with no restrictions, as required by job duties.
3. Work in a safe and professional manner while adhering to all regulatory requirements (FAA, OSHA, DOT, EPA, State, and Federal regulations, etc.).
4. Read, hear, speak, and see with no restrictions, as required by job duties.
5. Comprehend and adhere to management directions and/or safety instructions with no restrictions.
6. Effectively communicate in Business English language.
7. Pull, push, carry, lift, or move items up to 10 lbs. throughout the work shift without assistance, as required by job duties.
8. Pull, push, carry, lift or move materials/people/items/equipment weighing up to 50lbs or more during the work shift, with the use of Company provided “reach assistance technology” or “movement assist technology” (fork-lifts, pallet jacks, pulleys, dolly’s, robotics reach equipment, people movers etc.), as required by job duties.
