Job Purpose

Honda Aero LLC in Burlington, NC is search for a member responsible for the overall training and oversight of non-destructive program and for performing non-destructive testing of metallic and composite engine parts, using multiple non-destructive test methods, and is a member of an associate team with the responsibility of performing a variety of non-destructive inspections.

Key Accountabilities

  • Perform daily non-destructive evaluations of metallic and composite parts using a variety of non-destructive techniques including visual (weld and other), penetrant, ultrasonic, and eddy current
  • Develop and maintain company infrastructure for multiple non-destructive techniques including visual (weld and other), penetrant, ultrasonic, and eddy current.
  • Develop and maintain part specific techniques and instructions for non-destructive inspections, including selection and set-up of non-destructive equipment for non-destructive testing methods.
  • Train upcoming inspectors in non-destructive techniques.
  • Review and interpret drawings and specifications related to non-destructive inspection requirements.
  • Perform various inspections using conventional inspection methods, including dimensional characterization of weld defects.
  • Special projects as determined by Quality Management.

Qualifications, Experience, and Skills


Minimum Educational Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
     

Minimum Experience

  • Minimum of three and a half (3.5) years of Level 2 NDT Inspection experience in a NAS410 aerospace (or equivalent) program, with documented on-the-job and classroom training
  • Alternatively, a minimum of (1.5) years of Level 2 NDT inspection experience in a NAS410 aerospace (or equivalent) program, with documented on-the-job and classroom training, plus two years documented study in engineering or science at a technical school, college, or university
     

Other Job-Specific Skills

  • Ability to become qualified as an NAS410 Level 2 inspector, within 1 month of hire, for UT, PT, and ET, performing:
    • fluorescent penetrant inspection on metallic (aluminium, steel, or titanium) parts with smooth and cast surfaces
    • manual and robotic ultrasonic inspection on carbon fiber laminates with complex geometry and metallic parts
    • eddy current inspection of metallic (titanium or steel) parts
  • Ability to become qualified as an nas410 level 3 inspector, within 6 months of hire, performing same inspections as stated above
  • Current powerplant certificate a plus
  • Ability to become qualified to inspect using magnetic particle inspection and radiographic inspection (NAS410 Level 2/3 certification) a plus

Working Conditions

  • Climate-controlled office environment
  • Jet engine assembly and test cell environment
  • The performance of this position routinely requires exposure to the manufacturing areas where under certain areas require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses with side shields, mandatory hearing protection and safety shoes
  • Ability to lift 50lbs
  • This position will be enrolled in a DOT/FAA Anti-Drug and Alcohol Misuse program
