Job Purpose
The Assistant Sales Manager is responsible for achieving monthly U.S. wholesale and retail sales objectives by model for the Power Equipment Business Unit while preserving Honda Core Values within the Department. High-value decision-making is expected to make recommendations and provide direction to 8 District Sales Managers (including policy setting and exception decisions).

Key Accountabilities

  • Develop national sales strategies toward Department goals
  • Decide, manage Department policy exceptions
  • Sense US market conditions by region, identify sales obstacles and opportunities, develop, execute, and track countermeasure plans
  • Improve department processes for efficiency
  • Supervise/manage Sales Analyst I toward objective achievement

 
Qualifications, Experience and Skills

  • BA/BS degree in Business or equivalent work-related experience
  • 5 years successful experience as a District Sales Manager
  • Proficient in all MS Office applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, with especially strong skills in advanced Excel.
  • Proficiency in SAP/Business Objects and/or MS SQL
  • Experience in reviewing sales trends, plan development, tracking against results, and developing plan recovery countermeasures
  • Experience in coaching sales reps on achieving targets
  • Experience in market sensing
  • Knowledge of Power Equipment Products: Honda and Competitive
  • Knowledge of all Power Equipment dealership operations – with 2 years minimum dealership experience in a leadership role or equivalent
  • Experience in developing presentations and presenting to large groups
  • Understanding of small business financial management (P&L analysis)
  • Strong analytical, written/oral communication, and presentation skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to maintain strong relationships with both intra-department and intra-organization contacts
  • Ability to lead (with and without designated authority)
  • Strong negotiation skills

 
Workstyle
Must be able to sit and work in computer programs and applications for extended periods. A professional work environment with exposure to highly confidential information and business strategies (must thoroughly understand this). Frequent presentations/recommendations to upper management; must be able to perform in high stress environment. 40% travel required.
